Chapter 9; Question 3.
The tools and resources on the web must be applied to help students become productive digital citizens of their 21st century global digital society. What do you see as your role in preparing your students for their place in their world? What specifically will you do in your classroom to ensure that preparation?
The arts have generally been a class at the grade school level that do not use much technology when it comes to creating artworks. The amazing thing about many artist today and the way the system teaches is that they do not line up. Most people coming through art programs in college who will find a job when they graduate are graphic designers. Although some still enjoy creating things old fashioned pencil and paper before creating it on their programs (ME), the end piece of the project is in fact created on the computer. What's wrong with this? Nothing, but the schools are not introducing and showing students how to use these programs on top of other art mediums. I see my role in their preparation as being able to introduce these art styles although I doubt I have the funds, computers, etc. to perform it to the best. Because I am such a huge fan of paper and pencil layouts before I even get to working in the graphic design software, I think I can create projects that lend themselves to graphic design and the idea behind it to make sure my students are introduced to as many mediums as possible.
